Ikes offer free basic gun safety course Feb. 27
The Red Cedar Chapter of the Izaak Walton League is offering a free basic gun safety course this month.
On Wednesday, Feb. 27, Ikes member Bill Keller will lead a course offering basic information about the kinds of guns and how to handle each safely.
The free session begins at 6 p.m. and will last until approximately 8 p.
Post Prom Committee to hold dress sale again Sunday March 3rd
If you missed the first opportunity to purchase a dress for prom, the next sale will be Sunday, March 3rd from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School.
Honor Flight docomentary coming to CR theater
Great News Honor Flight Family!!!!! "Honor Flight, The Movie" will be shown ay 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 6th, 2013 at the Collins Rd Theaters in Cedar Rapids. Our thanks to Bruce Taylor at Collins Rd for his willingness to sponsor this showing, and for his past support of Honor Flight. Tickets are $7.50 and we need 30 more people to rsvp and get their tickets on line to make this happen.
VS to host Honor Choir Festival Feb. 19
Tuesday, February 19, marks the date of the annual East Central Iowa Choral Directors Association Honor Choir Festival. The Vinton-Shellsburg CSD is again pleased to serve as host for this special event. Fifth through eighth grade singers of high musical ability, character and work ethic have been chosen for two choirs and will perform in a 6:30 pm Grand Concert.

Snowball Trapshoot at the Red Cedar Ikes Club this Sunday, Feb 10th from 2-4 p.m. Time to see if we can hit anything after a winter break.
$4 per round for Ikes Members, $6 per round for non-members, ammo available at $6 a box.

2013 Cabaret Concert Feruary 22
The 2013 Cabaret Concert will be on Friday, February 22 at 7 P.M. Tickets can be purchased before the concert at discounted prices: $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. As in past concerts, no student/staff/or community passes are honored at the event. The deadline for purchasing the tickets at discounted prices is tomorrow, Feb 7 (by the end of the school day).
PEO Chapter MZ will meet Mon., Feb. 11
PEO Chapter MZ will meet Mon., Feb. 11 at 12 noon for a luncheon at the home of Karen Schlue assisted by Bonnie Rohlena. The program will be presented by Kae Santman. Please meet at 11:30 to carpool.
Vinton Unlimited Annual Meeting With Key Note Speaker: Dan Gable
Vinton Unlimited is excited to invite everyone to join us for our 2013 Annual Meeting on March 1st, 2013. There will be a dinner beginning at 6pm with former Iowa State wrestler, World Champion, & University of Iowa Coach, Dan Gable presenting at 6:45pm.
Tickets are on sale at Farmers Savings Bank & Trust (401 B Avenue) and will be well worth the price of admission! Dan is a world renowned wrestler and a national speaker who is guaranteed to encourage and excite all who hear him speak.
Mini-Masters begins Thursday
The 7th Annual Mini-Masters Golf Tournament will take place this week from Thursday, February 7th through Saturday, January 9th. Stop by participating businesses and play their mini-golf hole at your leisure and in any order you want! This is a great activity for the entire family and a fun way to check out local businesses throughout the Vinton Community! Stop by any participating business and pick up a scorecard, then get ready for some fun.
Tree Workshop Saturday, February 2, attend and get free tree certificate
There will be another tree workshop presentation on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Vinton City Hall.
For attending the workshop, property owners will get a $150 certificate for one tree or a $225 certificate for two trees to plant in the right-of-way adjacent to their property.
